What’s your personal development plan for health and wealth?

For most of us, work provides wealth, and career success can have a major impact on both earnings and health. It’s stated that 60% of employees have experienced mental health issues where work was a factor (source: Mind Culture). Mental health issues (anxiety and depression, for instance) in the workplace can come from many sources.  The good news is many of these issues can be resolved through coaching, training and development.

Let’s take the role of a travel consultant.  To be successful, sales skills are fundamentally crucial. Being able to handle complaints, hone social media techniques to get your business noticed, drive repeat and referral business, and master time and stress management are just some of the competencies needed to ensure both an exceptional customer experience and travel consultant fulfilment. Failure can lead to mental health issues.

Investing in ourselves shouldn’t be limited to sticky plaster solutions; core issues need addressing and continued learning is essential.

If you need to convince your employer to invest in learning and development, there’s your first hurdle. Employers should recognise the returns on investment mentioned. Richard Branson once said, “train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to’.  We couldn’t agree more.
